Patience

Pinterest

I have been bothered by some things I recently witnessed.
My grandmother got ill and we had to take her to the hospital last week. Now, one would think that in a hospital, they would be used to dealing with the elderly. The things I saw truly broke my heart. People do not have patience with the elderly. My grandmother was treated so poorly that I'm appalled that a world renowned hospital would treat their elderly patients as bad as they do.  My grandmother wasn't the only elderly patient treated poorly. In fact, all of them were treated poorly. There was no respect for them, no assistance, nothing. It was as if they were bothering them. Excuse me, but isn't their job to care for the sick? I know firsthand how stubborn and hard headed some elderly people can be, but that does not give doctors and nurses the right to belittle, trivialize, minimize, roll their eyes, or sneer at them. They may be old but they are someone's loved one. I really would like to know how these Doctors and nurses would feel, if that was their grandmother being treated in that way.

What in the world happen to” Respect Your Elders”?

Every single one of us, if we are lucky, will one day become elderly.
Yet, we treat them like trash.  It's an absolute disgrace.

Today, I'm asking you to have patience.
The most important thing when caring for an elderly person is to have patience.
Patience is what seems to be lacking these days.
If you see an elderly person struggling, reach out to them and help them.
Please don't roll your eyes, sneer at them, or make some type of off handed remark.
For one day, that may be you.

Respect your Elders!!

Thank you for reading.
Best, Mree

  3. So sorry to hear about your grandmother... my thoughts are with you!
It is a pretty sad thing when any patient is treated poorly, but I think it is truly awful when it happens to the elderly. They should be treated with the utmost respect.

  4. Wow that is depressing and appalling. So many people that work in the medical field shouldn't. It is not easy job and not for everyone. I remember as a 12 year old kid being gravely ill-- as in near death and in a tent, and the nurses were horrible to me. It is something i will never forget. I hope your grandmother recovers.
